What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are synthetic tooth roots that are made to look like natural teeth. They are placed into your jawbone and act as a supporting structure for a permanent bridge or artificial tooth. It is also possible for dental implants to attach dentures. Dental implants are composed of materials that are biocompatible, such as ceramic or metal.
By acting as a replacement for missing tooth roots, dental implants can help to maintain and stimulate the jawbone, helping to prevent and stop jawbone loss. They are also highly durable and can improve your appearance and speech.
Dr. Attar will conduct an examination to determine if you are a candidate for dental implants. Patients will need sufficient bone to hold the implant, healthy gum tissue and a normal immune system. After receiving your implants, you must commit to a daily oral hygiene regimen, including daily brushing and flossing. This is needed to ensure that your implants last a lifetime.
Before the beginning of the procedure, you will be given anesthesia. The implants are metal posts that are placed into your jawbone surgically. Once the implant has fused to your jawbone and your jaw has healed, replacement teeth are placed on the implant. To prevent infection following the procedure, you may be prescribed antibiotics.
